Closerie Falaiseau

Closerie Falaiseau was built in 1584 by the Falaiseau family. A “closerie” is a small enclosure including a house and often a vineyard. The house has two floors with a turret on one side that used to lead to the upstairs floor. There are three entrances on the ground floor, leading into each of the rooms, as the house was built in stages. In the upstairs living room, there is a majestic fireplace with the family’s coat of arms and two double bedrooms.

The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom (shower/bath, toilet) and large queen bed, whille the second bedroom has a large double bed. The spacious living/dining room has a small kitchen.

Downstairs, there is a second living room, a large fully-equipped kitchen with dining area, an office and bathroom (shower, toilet, washing machine with dryer). There is Al fresco dining  for four in front of the house.

The inside has been entirely renovated and has central heating. During the hot weather the 70 cm thick stone walls keep the inside naturally cool. The half-timbering on the walls is visible throughout and the ceilings all have traditional oak beam ceilings. There are many original features such as a stone sink (for cleaning milk pails!), a stone bench by the window for the ladies to watch the world go by, a bread oven (unfortunately not in use) and a lead-light window with a cabochon from one of the stained glass windows from Chartres Cathedral (!) and a 16th century fireplace. The authentic furniture is Henri II and French provincial. There is a high standard of comfort. throughout as this is our home the rest of the year.

Please confirm if you have any vacancies for an aussie couple starting Tuesday 21 Oct 2014 for 3 days and what is the cost, noting we do not smoke and do not have pets.

  3. Rosemary Kneipp says:

Hi, I’m afraid I don’t have any vacancies. We have temporarily closed the house for guests.
    Best regards

Would you be open to take guests in late May 2015. 2 adults for 3 nights.

  5. Rosemary Kneipp says:

Hi Judy, thanks for your request. However, we’re in the throes of moving and we’re not sure when the house will be available in 2015. Probably in September.

    Hello Rosemary,
If you are interested in passing on enquiries that you are not able to meet, we Aussies are grateful for the referrals. As you can appreciate we do not have the opportunity to be there much of the year, so we are happy to have made available to visitors wanting to see that part of the world.
Whilst we are a little further south we are well placed to see some of the big attractions of the region.
Any referrals for a 1 bedroom apartment are much appreciated.
    Gratefully Barbara

Most certainly! Our houses now has two bedrooms so we may not get any inquiries for one bedroom but I shall think of you.

    Dear Roaemary,

We are 2 professional American women planning a trip to France in October, 2016. I’ve been reading your about wonderful adventure for some time now. Would you please write re: availability, etc. We have no definite times, but in France 10/04/16-10/18-ish/16. Would you be so kind as to notify me of your situation. I stayed in a gite with my mother and sister in Alsace and loved it.

    Dear Rosemary,
I live in Paris and will be visiting Valencay the weekend of April 9/10 with my 13 year old daughter and and two friends visiting from the U.S.
